A Florida Awning Manufacturer, Not A Catalog
United States Awning started in Chicago in 1870 making tents, and came to Sarasota with the Ringling Brothers circus. The same family has owned the company since 1935, which makes us one of the few family owned awning companies in Florida still doing its own fabrication. Seventy years on the Suncoast later, we still measure, build and install everything ourselves.
What has changed is what we can build. Fabric awnings and canopies are still core work, but most of our shop is now engineered aluminum — large shade structures, pergolas, handrails, trellises and canopies at a scale most local awning companies cannot take on. Roughly 70% of our work is commercial, with general contractors, restaurants and property managers; the rest is residential.
In Florida, shade is not a luxury. It is what makes a patio, an entrance or a dining terrace usable. We are straightforward about what a project takes, and we stand behind the work after the truck leaves.

How much does a custom awning or pergola cost?
It depends on span, structure and finish, which is why we measure on site before quoting. A window awning and a 20-foot louvered pergola are not the same project. Every proposal breaks out size, fabric or finish, motorization and total investment so nothing is buried.
Do you work with general contractors?
Yes. A large share of our volume is commercial, and we regularly work from plans for GCs on restaurants, retail, medical and multi-family builds. Send drawings to sales@unitedstatesawning.com for a takeoff.
Are your awnings made in Florida?
Every project is designed, fabricated and installed by our own team out of our Sarasota shop on 18th Street. We are a custom manufacturer, not a reseller of stock sizes.
What areas do you serve?
Sarasota, Bradenton, Venice and the surrounding Suncoast, with work regularly running from Tampa down to Naples. Our Sundance pergola territory covers Pasco, Pinellas, Hillsborough, Manatee, Sarasota, Charlotte and Lee counties.
Do you handle permitting?
When a project requires a permit, we handle the paperwork as part of the scope. For homeowners that removes a headache, and for contractors it removes a line item that tends to slip.
What warranty comes with the work?
One year on labor and five years on powder-coat finishes. Normal wear-and-tear service inside that first year is covered. Storm damage is not a workmanship issue and is handled through your insurance.
